Submission Guidelines

General Information

The BRICS Law Journal is published four times a year. All submissions undergo peer-review and editorial quality control. The review and editorial process takes approximately two to three months. Please note that an expedited process is not available.

The BRICS Law Journal is an open-access journal with no publication fees for authors.

Submission Policy

Articles must be the result of original research and must not have been published elsewhere. Authors are required to inform the Editorial Board about non-exclusive manuscripts if the manuscripts have been published or are expected to be submitted elsewhere.

The BRICS Law Journal welcomes works authored by scholars, but also accepts serious works authored by PhD students and practicing lawyers. The Journal accepts articles written by undergraduate students only in exceptional cases.

Works with international co-authorship are most welcome, however please note that the Journal recommends that such articles should be written by no more than two authors from the same country or institutional affiliation.

Submission Requirements

Language

The BRICS Law Journal only accepts manuscripts written in English. The Journal does not make translations or provide language services of any kind, nor does the Journal accept translations of works originally written in languages other than English. Before submitting a manuscript, authors whose native language is not English may want to obtain relevant editing assistance (grammar, usage, and spelling) from a professional language editing service.

Please note that the Journal strongly encourages the use of gender-neutral language.

Length, Format, Headings, Lists and Quotations, Footnotes and References

Articles should not be fewer than 7,000 words and should not exceed 10,000 words (including footnotes). The BRICS Law Journal will accept articles exceeding 10,000 words only in exceptional cases. Book reviews and manuscripts of an informational nature may be about 5,000 words in length.

When writing your manuscript, please refer to the BRICS Law Journal Authors’ Guidelines (please see the hyperlink below) for the specific requirements on these and other matters of style.

Submission Process

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically via the website www.bricslawjournal.org or sent to Chief Editor Elena Gladun by e-mail at bricslaw@gmail.com.

Please do not send a hard copy of your manuscript.

Manuscripts will be considered for publication only if they comply with the BRICS Law Journal Authors’ Guidelines. Once a manuscript is accepted, the author will be asked to revise it, if necessary, in line with the requirements described above.

Proofs

Manuscripts undergo certain editorial modifications. When the proofs are ready, they will be sent (in PDF format) to the authors via e-mail for checking. Authors are asked to check the proofs carefully. To facilitate timely and efficient publication, authors are asked to check the proofs and return them within five working days. Corrections should be returned with annotated PDF via e-mail. Authors should refrain from making extensive changes to the proofs.
